Course-specific documents

PGCE Secondary Business

“A very warm welcome to your PGCE Business programme. You should have already received my ‘Welcome to the course’ email, which provides resources and materials for you to work with prior to the start of your course in September. These are provided again on this page below. Please complete the Subject Knowledge Audit in August and return to me at that point. This will provide a good indication of your baseline knowledge at the start of the course. We will then review this document again at strategic points over the year, using it as a guide to help target areas of strength and areas for improvement.

Please contact me if you have any questions.”

- Kathy Cameron k.cameron@leedstrinity.ac.uk

PGCE Secondary Computer Science with ICT

“A very warm welcome to the PGCE in Computer Science with ICT. Prior to your course starting, please download and review the documents below. In the case of the Subject Knowledge Audit you will have already received a copy of this from the interview. We will use this throughout your course to guide your subject knowledge improvement.

The Welcome Information presentation contains important information regarding the course and preparatory reading which you will find useful. This Ofsted report into the current state of Computer Science and ICT teaching in England will help you understand the challenges we face as a community of computing teachers. The Computing Programmes of Study document outlines DFE expectations of the content to be taught at Key Stage 3 and 4.

Please do contact me if you have any questions.”

- Ian Needham  I.Needham@leedstrinity.ac.uk.

PGCE Secondary Geography

"Ahead of starting your PGCE Geography course in September, below are some tasks to complete and some recommended reading:

  • Create your own folder or file containing any up-to-date case studies to support your studies rather than relying solely on textbook examples. Geography is all-encompassing so your case studies can cover a wide range of themes - social, economic, political, environmental and physical - across a variety of scales, from local to international. Examples may include climate change, natural hazards, migration, transport, planning controversy, conflict, etc.
  • You could take a look at the National curriculum for Geography from the Department of Education.
  • If you have been travelling and have photographs which are appropriate this is often a way of engaging students so again make a file of these. It is also something which we can discuss at our first session together.
  • The one book which you might like to look at is Make Every Geography Lesson Count by Mark Enser. It is very readable with practical advice and not too much of a tome.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch”

PGCE Secondary Religious Education

“Welcome to PGCE RE. I am looking forward to working with you all.

Your priority before starting the course is to audit your subject knowledge using the document below. This is similar to the document you completed for interview but is much more detailed and will allow you to form some detailed targets and establish where your knowledge gaps are. Please complete the September column and the September priorities and action section at the end of the document before starting the course.

You can also develop your own knowledge and understanding of a range of religious and secular worldviews, as well as philosophy and ethics through your wider reading. As a starting point, I recommend titles from the Oxford University Press series ‘A Very Short Introduction To…’

Further reading and research can be done using the resources document below which has links for independent subject knowledge development.

Please do contact me if you have any questions”
