Join us for an enlightening talk as we explore the spiritual insights into mental health with Leeds Trinity Honorary Research Fellow Dr David Torevell.

A man stood looking out at the sun setting over a dark mountain.

What’s happening?

One in four people will experience mental health issues in their lifetime which would benefit from structured treatment or support. One in five children will have a mental health issue needing professional help at some time in their childhood. This interactive talk will focus on spiritual insights into this phenomenon. Drawing from the Christian and Buddhist traditions, it will highlight how these two religions have offered a framework for understanding and responding to this common experience. Do come along and share in the discussion.

Dr. David Torevell worked for eighteen years in Catholic secondary schools before entering Higher Education to teach Religion, Philosophy, Education and English Literature. He spent many years at Liverpool Hope University, latterly as an Associate Professor, before moving onto Leeds Trinity University, where he became an Honorary Research Fellow. He is the author of Losing the Sacred: Ritual Modernity and Liturgical Reform and Liturgy and the Beauty of the Unknown. He has edited an 11-volume series on ethics and published many articles in international journals. His research interests are: Catholic Education, Contemplative and Philosophical Theology and Religion, Literature and the Arts.
