As industries see lockdown measures slowly begin to ease, we’re concluding the #LTBN ‘Adapt and Thrive’ series with a focus on businesses that have changed their business model to overcome the challenges of the pandemic to support communities and remain engaged with their customers and service users. We’ll look at a range of businesses (large and small) to see what lessons have been learned, and what strategies will be taken forward.

.

What’s happening?

We’ll hear from a leading UK arts organisation; a family owned bakery with 59 UK store locations and a small community-interest company geared toward supporting adults with learning difficulties to gain employment in the hospitality sector. Speakers will explore what measures they implemented to remain operational, how they supported employees and communities and what lessons can be learned as we move into the ‘new normal.’

Speakers:

Natasha Morris, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Opera North

With so much media focus on the impact of an economic hit to the arts and culture sector, innovation is key to remain operational. Natasha will talk us through Opera North’s new audience engagement programmes such as ‘From Couch to Chorus’, continuing the success of whistle-stop opera and the launch of their interactive digital soundwalk for audiences to experience through headphones as they walk through the centre of the city of Leeds.

Opera North is a national opera company based in Leeds and a leading UK arts organisation. Rooted in the North of England, international in outlook, that creates extraordinary experiences, every day. Their aim is to make bold, innovative, ambitious work and share it in new ways. Opera North believes opera and music is for everyone, and champions diversity in artists, repertoire and audiences.

David Smart, Managing Director at Greenhalgh’s Bakery

Greenhalgh’s is a long-established family Craft Bakery and was founded in 1957. Whilst so many of their product offerings may have changed dramatically due to lockdown limitations, their commitment to innovation and customer service is as strong as it has ever been.

The Company currently employs approximately 950 staff and is one of the largest employers in the Bolton area. Managing Director, David Smart will talk us through the lessons learned over the past few months and discuss what’s next for his business.

Stuart Hill, Owner and Founder of Access Hospitality

Stuart set up to Access Hospitality to enable adults with learning disabilities to gain fulfilling, paid employment in the hospitality sector. Due to Covid-19, Stuart has changed this business model and developed a new initiative to support community venues increase capacity whilst meeting Covid-19 regulations through a ‘pop up’ coffee and bar service using the assistive technology built into their ordering app.
