Funding your degree

We’ll help you make sense of student finance
Three students sit around a table in a café, working on laptops and chatting. One student is smiling and engaged in conversation, while another types on their device. Coffee cups and phones are on the table, and other students are visible in the background.

Funding your degree

Tuition fees

For UK home students, tuition fees for three-year undergraduate degrees are currently £9,535 per year for the 2025/26 academic year.

Foundation years are usually charged at either £5,760 or £9,535, depending on the subject. Check your foundation year fee on our course pages.

If you have overseas fee status, see our international fees and funding.

Fees for 2026/27 (September 2026 start date) will be confirmed later in 2025 and may rise in line with inflation or government policy.

Paying your fees

Eligible UK students can apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the full fee amount, which is paid directly from the Student Loans Company to Leeds Trinity.

You do not pay anything up-front, and repayments start only after you graduate or leave your course and earn over £25,000 a year (for English students).

If you are not eligible for a loan or choose not to take one, you will need to pay fees directly to the University in line with our Financial Regulations.

For personalised advice and to check your eligibility for a loan, contact the Money Advice team at moneyadvice@leedstrinity.ac.uk. This is particularly important if you've ever studied at university or higher education level before.

Living costs

UK home students can apply for a maintenance loan to help with accommodation, food, travel and other costs.

The amount depends on your household income and where you will live during your course.

Applications open early each year, and you do not need an unconditional offer to apply.

If your course starts in September, aim to apply by mid-May.

English students apply to Student Finance England for maintenance funding. If you're from Northern Ireland, Scotland your Wales, you should visit your funding provider's website for more information.

Again, if you've ever studied at university or higher education level before, please contact the Money Advice team to check your eligibility at moneyadvice@leedstrinity.ac.uk.

Home or overseas fee status

Your tuition fee amount depends on your fee status.

Most UK nationals and those with permanent residency will pay home fees.

Home fee status

You are likely to have Home (UK) status if:

  1. You are a British or Irish national citizen or have a permanent right to live in the UK and have lived for three full years immediately before the first day of your course in any of the following places:
    • UK
    • Republic of Ireland
    • Isle of Man
    • Channel Islands
    • a British Overseas Territory
  2. You have been granted refugee status or have humanitarian protection in the UK, or certain other forms of humanitarian leave such as through the Ukraine schemes.
  3. You are the child, spouse or civil partner of a person who qualifies through points (1) or (2).
  4. You have been living legally in the UK for an extended period (usually half your life).
  5. You are the child of a Turkish worker, and you and your parent have been living in the UK since before 31 December 2020.

You have a permanent right to live in the UK if you hold any of the following:

  • Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
  • Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE)
  • Settled status through the EU Settlement Schemes

You may also qualify for Home (UK) fee status if:

  • you would ordinarily have met one of the criteria above but have been living outside the UK because you or your parent, guardian, spouse or civil partner is temporarily employed abroad
  • you usually live outside the UK, but you also maintain ongoing connections and residency in the UK (and so can be considered resident in multiple places)

Overseas fee status

You are likely to have overseas status if:

  1. You have not lived in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands for three full years immediately before the first day of your course.
  2. You live in the UK but have immigration restrictions on how long you can stay.
  3. You have lived in the UK but at any point in the three years immediately before the first day of your course, the main purpose of your residency was to receive full-time education (for example studying away from home at a boarding school or another university).

If you're joining us on a student visa or have been assessed as having overseas fee status, check our international fees and finance pages.
