Message from the Vice-Chancellor
As a University community, we are deeply shocked and saddened by the recent tragic death of Anugrah Abraham, who was completing his Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship with West Yorkshire Police and Leeds Trinity.
Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
We are aware of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation into the circumstances of Anu’s death, and the University will fully engage with that investigation.
We strongly believe in the importance of being a diverse and inclusive institution, welcoming students from all backgrounds and beliefs.
We work to promote the principles of dignity, respect, social justice, equality, and inclusion, and expect all members of our community to embody these values and behaviours. Our anti-racism statement and commitment reflects this ethos.
We hold ourselves accountable and expect everyone to work to dismantle the structures that perpetuate racism, and we continue to work on a number of measures to ensure our staff and students understand and advocate anti-racist and anti-discriminatory behaviours.
I know this is a very difficult time for everyone at Leeds Trinity. We have a range of support available for students and staff, and our mental health and wellbeing resources can provide support and a safe space for anyone who needs them, both in person and online.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Anu’s family.
