The ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises remain highly distressing and our thoughts go out to all those impacted by this devastating conflict.
We acknowledge, particularly as an institution committed to social justice, that humanitarian suffering and the living conditions of those across the globe are issues that reverberate within our own communities.
As a University, our focus is on supporting our students and staff as best we can during this difficult time. We urge our students and staff to access the support that is available and we will do our utmost to help in any way we can.
Our Chaplaincy is there for students and staff of all faiths and none for discussion and support. The Chapel and multi-faith prayer space are also open all day for prayer and for those who would like a quiet space to reflect.
Support for students and staff
A range of support is available for students and staff, and our mental health and wellbeing resources can provide support and a safe space for anyone who needs them, both in person and online. Please do speak to the Student Support team, your line manager or Leadership member if you need further assistance.
Support for students
Counselling support is available to our students. Students are encouraged to use the myLTU app for details of support services. Alternatively, they can email studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk or studentwellbeing@leedstrinity.ac.uk.
You may be finding it hard to focus on your studies at this time if you are closely affected by these events. If your ability to complete, submit or attend assessment has been affected, you should complete a Mitigating Circumstances Application form which is available through your e:Vision account.
Support for staff
Our independent Employee Assistance Programme is available 24/7 for confidential support, information and wellbeing resources; further information is available via the colleague intranet.
Zero Tolerance
The University affirms zero tolerance for all forms of harassment and abuse. This means that all reports, incidents and allegations will be investigated. Disciplinary consequences for any behaviour will be carried out under the provisions of the Dignity at Work and Study Policy.
Racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, incitement and harassment are totally unacceptable and have no place at Leeds Trinity. Any incidents targeted at you or that you witness, should be reported through our online tool, Zero Tolerance.
All reports made through Zero Tolerance are taken seriously and handled through our well-established protocols.
Staying safe on campus
We know that some staff and students are feeling more vulnerable at the moment. Security staff are on duty at Leeds Trinity 24 hours a day, all year round.
Security support can be accessed at Main Reception or by calling 0113 283 7203 or 07860 383 434. If in an emergency, call 999 and ask for the appropriate service.
Diversity of perspectives
Freedom of expression and academic freedom are core values of Leeds Trinity University, and open discussion and debate is the lifeblood of learning and research here.
The University encourages its diverse community of students and staff to actively engage in scholarly discussion of these very complex issues and to express their views. We expect that constructive disagreement is voiced with civility, and that all dialogue is lawful.
Travel guidance
If you are planning to travel overseas or are returning to the UK, please check the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) website and follow the guidance in place for the country you are travelling to and from. Please make sure you are following the university guidance with regard to business or study travel.
Aid organisations
Many of you have asked what you can do to help communities impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine and Israel.
The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas. If you would like to support relief efforts a list of the DEC’s member charities is available on their website.
