How to apply through Clearing
Applying for the first time might feel like a big step, but it’s easier than you think.
Once Clearing opens on 2 July, just follow these simple steps:
- Get set up on UCAS
You’ll need to register with UCAS.
This gives you a personal UCAS ID number, which you'll need when you apply. - Choose your course
Browse the list of courses available through Clearing at Leeds Trinity.
- Apply by phone
Call 0330 058 4266. Have your exam results, the UCAS course code, and your UCAS ID number ready.
- Get your offer
If you meet the entry requirements, we’ll make you a verbal offer over the phone, followed by a confirmation email.
For some courses, we may need to arrange an interview or gather extra information - we’ll talk you through anything you need to prepare. - Accept your offer
Once you’re ready to accept, add your Clearing choice in UCAS. After that, we’ll confirm your place.
Key dates
2 July – Clearing opens at Leeds Trinity
You can start exploring our courses with places available and call our friendly team to apply.
13 August – A-Level Results Day
This is one of the busiest Clearing days, so if you already have your results, we recommend calling us earlier to improve your chances of securing your first-choice course.
I came through Clearing and found the whole process so easy. I applied through UCAS, set up a profile and explained why I wanted to do this course in my personal statement. I had all the GCSEs but didn't have the A-levels, so I didn't think I stood a chance. Leeds Trinity gave me a chance by letting me do an essay, which I did on prisons and reoffending, and I passed!

Your questions answered
Can I get accommodation through Clearing?
Yes. Once your place is confirmed, you'll be invited to book your student accommodation.
How do I work out my UCAS points?
To help you work out how many UCAS points your qualifications will give you, we've created a handy UCAS Point Calculator. All you need to do is find your qualifications and add your confirmed or predicted grades.
What about student finance?
If you've already applied, just update your course and university details. If you haven't applied yet, you can still do so through Student Finance England.
Don't wait for a confirmed place - you can apply now.
Can I apply as a mature student?
Absolutely. If you're returning to education after a break or applying with work experience or alternative qualifications, you're not alone.
We value your experience and are here to support you every step of the way.
I've changed my mind - can I apply to a different course?
Yes. If you've changed your plans and want to switch courses or universities, you can use Clearing to do that.
Just make sure you've declined any existing offers in UCAS first.
Is the Clearing process stressful?
Not at all. It’s simply another way of applying to university, and every year thousands of students secure their place through Clearing.
We understand the process can feel overwhelming at times, but being prepared can help. Have your UCAS ID, grades, personal statement and a list of preferred courses ready before calling Clearing hotlines so you feel more confident and organised.
Can I apply through Clearing as an International student?
At the moment, we're only accepting applications from students who already have the right to study in the UK.
