A Day in the Life - Rachel Feather

I get to work across the whole campus and so come into contact with work colleagues, other members of staff, students & visitors.

I start at 7.00am cleaning in the office areas of the university, it is good to get in before people start so that you are not disturbing anyone with the vacuum. I work here until 9.00am and during that time staff start arriving. Everyone is very friendly, and you really feel like you are part of a wider team.

At 9.00am after a quick snack I head off to the accommodation blocks. Mondays are usually spent clearing lots of rubbish from the weekend. For the rest of the week we concentrate on cleaning the kitchen and corridor areas, and do a maintenance clean in the ensuite bathrooms every six weeks.

Students in halls are all different, you get some who are really quiet and only say hello, others are very, very chatty. Working in their home is a lovely experience, whilst we are cleaning the kitchens they might come and tell you about their nights out, or about how they are settling, which you really appreciate especially having children a similar age.

I have also recently started work one day a week in our main reception, answering the phone, directing students, receiving visitors and contractors, and generally answering enquiries. I have been at the university over six years and this is a great progression of my role. I have been made to feel so welcome there and I really enjoy being part of the team. In the future I hope to take on more hours in reception and be able to develop my skills.

Working at Leeds Trinity University gives you great opportunities and the chance to progress
