Leeds is a welcoming city with a number of LGBTQ+ venues, from bars and clubs to coffee houses and book shops. Our LTSU LGBT+ Society also hosts regular socials.

The Freedom Quarter in the city centre is heart of the community, which is where you’ll find the award-winning Viaduct Showbar, Queen’s Court and Leeds’ oldest gay bar, The New Penny, which is thought to be one of the longest continuously running gay bars in the UK.

Not just nightlife

Leeds is also home to many LGBTQ+ cafes, restaurants and bookshops. Flamingos Coffee House is Leeds’ dry late night LGBTQ+ café with delicious cakes and a number of events including quiz nights, and The Bookish Type is a queer independent bookshop which champion LGBTIQA+ authors and books with queer themes and characters

Community support

With a thriving LGBTQ+ community, the city also has lots of support organisations you can access. Yorkshire MESMAC and Touchstone offer things like testing, counselling and signposting. Angels of Freedom provides support to the community, as well as running LGBTQ+ social groups, activities and events in Leeds.

Events

Leeds Pride is Yorkshire’s biggest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, and is recognised as one of the city’s headline events. For celebrations of LGBTQ+ culture, take a look at Leeds Queer Film Festival and LGBT+ Lit Fest.
