Final-year Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation students from Leeds Trinity University have supported the Netherlands women T20 World Cup cricket team ahead of their match against India.
The Dutch women’s team benefitted from recovery, mobility and sports massage therapy, as they prepare for their T20 World Cup match at Headingley Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday 17 June).
The two Level 6 students who delivered the therapy did so as part of their work in the University’s Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic, a new, expert-led setting providing students with the opportunity to gain real-world clinical experience as an integrated part of their studies.
Student Tom Harban said: "Providing soft tissue treatment to world cup players was an insightful and a fantastic learning experience, as I got to understand what the athletes go through on a day-to-day basis to maintain high performance. Knowing that our help will improve their performances is an amazing feeling, and I am grateful for the opportunity."
Leeds Trinity has a strong reputation for career-led education, with professional work placements and applied learning opportunities embedded into the curriculum. Luke Homig, Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic Coordinator at Leeds Trinity University said: “It was fantastic to meet the Netherlands women T20 World Cup team and play a part in making sure they are in top shape ahead of their game. Our students did a great job showcasing the skills they have learned on the course over the past three years.
“It is a wonderful example of how we continue to work with athletes and sports teams to provide opportunities for students to transfer knowledge, gain experience and develop the range of skills needed to step right into the profession.”
