Mixed Methods Research Design for the Built Environment provides practical and step-by-step guidance on how to apply mixed methods research design, including an elucidation of the various philosophical and methodological underpinnings upon which the choice of a particular variant of the mixed methods research design is predicated. It provides practical case examples and guidance on the processes involved to design and undertake mixed methods research. Professor Charles Egbu, and his co-authors, Associate Professor Julius Akotia, and Professor Bankole Osita Awuzie, explore the advantages and disadvantages of using mixed methods research, and how multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative data can be combined and applied to carry out research projects. 

Professor Egbu’s second new book, Urban Resilience and Climate Change in the MENA Region, provides an overview of the geopolitical context and climate change risk profile of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region. Using existing scientific literature and reports, Professor Egbu and co-writer and award-winning urban planner Dr Nuha Eltinay provide guidance and policy recommendations based on empirical research and key stakeholder engagement observations. 

Professor Egbu has built up a wealth of experience in construction and the built environment (CBE) alongside over 30 years in Higher Education. He was President of the Chartered Institute of Building between 2019 and 2020; and prior to his role at Leeds Trinity, he was Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education and Experience) at the University of East London; Dean of the School of Built Environment and Architecture at London South Bank University and Head of the School of Built Environment at the University of Salford. He has also held academic posts at University College London, Glasgow Caledonian University, and Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan).  

His first Degree was in Quantity Surveying, while his Doctorate was obtained in Construction Project Management. His main research interests focus on project management, construction management and sustainable development. Professor Egbu has now written and edited 14 books and contributed to more than 350 publications in various international journals and conferences, supervised more than 30 PhD students and examined over 100 PhD students worldwide. 

Mixed Methods Research Design for the Built Environment will serve as a useful research methodology resource for students, academics and researchers across various disciplines in the built environment due to the lack of literature currently available on this subject matter.  

The new publication by Professor Charles Egbu will also be available for the first cohort of students enrolled to study Construction Management BSc, Construction Project Management BSc and Quantity Surveying BSc at Leeds Trinity’s new Leeds City Campus, starting in the 2024/25 academic year.
