The promotions recognise colleagues making an impact in their fields of expertise, with strong track records of high-quality research and knowledge exchange, distinctive authority in subject areas, and leadership within Leeds Trinity.

The appointments include:

  • Professors Martin Barwood, Professor of Applied Environmental Physiology, Carmen Lau Clayton, Professor of Family and Cultural Dynamics, and Fiona Shelton, Professor of Education and Pedagogy;
  • Reader Dr Lisa Webster (Psychology);
  • Senior Teaching Fellow Paul Marsden (Journalism); and
  • Senior Professional Practice Fellows Ricardo Barker (Media), Dr Susan Elmer (Children, Young People and Families), Ed Podesta (Institute for Childhood & Education) and Megan Stephenson (Institute for Childhood & Education).

Professor Malcolm Todd, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said: “We are delighted to announce the outcome of Leeds Trinity’s recent academic promotion round. The breadth of appointments we have made highlights the calibre of teaching and academic excellence within the institution, as well as demonstrating the University’s focus on high-quality research and knowledge exchange.

“These are key elements of the University’s new five-year Strategic Plan and I look forward to working closely with colleagues going forward. Congratulations to all recognised in this promotion round.”

Professor Catherine O’Connor, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Experience, said: “In addition to the academic distinction and advancement of knowledge recognised in our Professors and Readers, the Fellowship promotions also demonstrate our commitment as a University to teaching and learning excellence.

“These appointments reflect significant and sustained contribution to pedagogic research, practice and innovation, and the development of professional practice both inside and outside the University. It’s clear that colleagues are making a real impact and will continue to enhance the student learning experience as they shape the agenda in their subject areas.”

This is Leeds Trinity University’s second academic promotion round of 2021, following appointments made earlier this year in March.
