Secondary Education, Physical Education and Sport undergraduate Megan Price has been selected to train in the England Students Women’s RFL squad, as they prepare for the 2021 Festival of World Cups.

This is the first time the England Students Women’s RFL squad have played since 2016, and Megan has spent two years working towards her selection after learning that the World Cup would be taking place in England. In 2018, she set herself three personal goals which were to: attend Leeds Trinity University, play in the Super League and play for England in the 2021 World Cup.

Megan has successfully achieved two of these goals; attending Leeds Trinity and playing in the Super League for Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants. Following her England selection, Megan is now in the process of achieving her third and final goal of playing in the World Cup.

Megan said: “I am over the moon with my selection for the England Students. The trials were so intense and there were so many talented girls taking part. I feel so lucky to have earned my place and am looking forward to developing as a player, training alongside amazing athletes and being directed by outstanding coaching staff. I wouldn’t be where I am without the amazing support I have received from Leeds Trinity.”

Megan’s training will be delivered by joint Head Coaches Conor Meese and Ellis Pascall, who are both alumni of Leeds Trinity, with both graduating in Secondary Physical Education and Sports Development in 2016, before pursuing an MA degree in Sport Management.

Speaking on Megan’s selection, Conor said: “Megan stood out well in the trial environment and I’m sure she will be a handful for the teams we play. It’s great for Leeds Trinity to be represented at national level, hopefully this selection could inspire others to take up the sport and start a university team. Leeds Trinity is an especially supportive environment to its athletes, and I have no doubt they will provide Megan with all the support she needs.”

Sarah Todd, Sports Development Manager, said: “I am delighted for Megan on her selection for the England Students squad. It is great to see her talent and work ethic being recognised at such a high level. Megan is a dedicated student and rugby player and will be an asset to the squad.

“It’s such an exciting time for Women’s Rugby League in universities and I’m really pleased we have students like Megan who are so passionate about Rugby League to be role models on our campus to inspire other women to get involved.”

Megan will start training this weekend in preparation of the squad’s first series of competitive matches against the GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces in March and April, as part of the President’s Cup.
