A Leeds-based magazine edited by an alumnus from Leeds Trinity University has been shortlisted for Best Magazine at the Saboteur Awards 2019.

Strix, a poetry and short fiction magazine, launched in May 2017 has been shortlisted for the second year running. The magazine is edited by SJ Bradley, Andrew Lambeth and Leeds Trinity Alumnus Ian Harker.

Now approaching its seventh issue, the magazine is edited and published in Leeds, featuring work from established writers and those at the start of their writing career. This year the publication is joined by other Leeds-based nominees including Leeds Lit Fest and Joe Williams, who have been nominated for the Best Lit Fest and Best Novella awards.

Ian, Co-poetry Editor ofStrix, studied Communication and Cultural Studies at Leeds Trinity University and graduated in 2005. He started writing poetry during the first year of his degree and since graduating has pursued a career in poetry.

His work has been published in a number of magazines and in 2015 he was shortlisted for two major competitions - the Bridport Prize and the Troubadour prize. More recently he was named runner up in the 2018 BBC Proms poetry competition, which you can read abouthere.

Ian said: "We're thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award for a second year running, but to be representing our city with Joe Williams and Leeds Lit Fest means the world to us. Writing and spoken word is flourishing in Leeds and the region, and we're proud to be a part of these exciting times."

The Saboteur Awards have been running since 2011, and are supported through public funding from Arts Council England. The awards celebrate a diverse range of literature from across the English-speaking world and the winners are chosen by the public. ?

Voting closes at midnight on 12 May and you can vote through the linkhere. The winners will be announced on Saturday 18 May at Fazeley Studios in Birmingham.?
