Members of Horsforth Trinity Badminton Club - who train at Leeds Trinity University Sports and Fitness Centre - are preparing for their 40th anniversary this year and are inviting all members, past and present, to join them on Saturday 15 June to celebrate.
The celebration will take place from 1.00-4.00pm at Leeds Trinity Sports and Fitness Centre, and a finger buffet and refreshments will be provided. The gym will also be open for anyone who would like to enjoy a game of badminton.
The club, founded in June 1979 by Club President Sylvia Sellers, was one of the first badminton clubs in Horsforth. Membership grew rapidly and within a short amount of time the club had to extend their court usage to support the number of members.
The club continues to run on a Friday evening, offering competitive, social badminton to residents in Leeds and the surrounding areas, welcoming both experienced and new players. Badminton sessions are between 7.30 and 9.30pm, with match games normally played across the three courts depending on numbers.
For players who would like to join, you can attend the first session for free to sample the match play and atmosphere. As a non-profit club, the membership fee is £50 for the year, with an additional charge of 50p per session to cover the cost of shuttles.
Sylvia Sellers, Founder and President of Horsforth Trinity Badminton Club said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed running the club and meeting hundreds of people over the years (with the support and dedication from club members). Leeds Trinity University is my second home and I think of club members as my extended family. My sincere thanks go out to Leeds Trinity University and Sarah Studds for contributing to the club's success over 40 years."
Sarah Studds, Sports Facilities Manager at Leeds Trinity University said:
"Trinity Fitness are thrilled to have supported Horsforth Trinity Badminton Club over the last 40 years. The club has been an important part of the community and I hope that members from the university and local community will continue to enjoy playing Badminton for many more years and join them in their celebrations." ?
