What to do for patients with tinnitus

The aim of this full day workshop is to improve treatment efficacy of tinnitus patients in West Yorkshire and beyond by empowering GPs, NHS/private audiologists and other healthcare professionals to better serve patients through rapid referral to appropriate psychological interventions.

 

What's happening?

This full day workshop will cover:

  • Why tinnitus is a condition in its own right and not a symptom of other conditions
  • Tinnitus treatment pathways and current patient (dis)satisfaction
  • Workshop focusing on broadening understanding of key counselling awareness/knowledge, how counselling works in practice and identifying appropriate counselling support pathways for improving patient psychosocial wellbeing
  • Research into the efficacy of tinnitus interventions at Leeds Trinity University including evidence-base of online mindfulness resources, Mindful Dance and smartphone applications applying internet based Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (iCBT)
  • Workshop on improving sleep quality and sleep hygiene in tinnitus patients
  • Referral options and how to boost your own referral network
  • Career/business development (i.e. advice on further qualifications/successful practice)

 

Guest Speakers

Dr James Jackson –  Reader in Psychology at Leeds Trinity University

James is a Chartered Psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and holds a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy –  now Advance HE. James has an international reputation in the field of tinnitus research and is currently serving on the Professional Advisory Committee on Tinnitus UK. James has tinnitus and severe hearing loss –  his doctorate considered the effects of tinnitus on concentration and task performance. James is also an unpaid Clinical and Scientific Advisor for Hearing Power, the makers of Tinnibot.

Dr Jamie Cruickshank –  Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Leeds Trinity University

Dr Jamie Cruickshank is a Lecturer in Psychology at Leeds Trinity University and is also a residential counsellor at Liverpool Bereavement Service. Jamie has worked with a wide range of adult clients struggling with bereavement, loss, trauma, and related mental health challenges. They hold a PhD in Health Psychology and is a qualified Counsellor/Psychotherapist registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP). 

Dr Alyshia Murgatroyd-Giffen – Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Leeds Trinity University

Alyshia is an HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist, with experience in working with young people and male and female adults with mental health difficulties, personality disorders and different offending backgrounds. She has worked in a variety of settings including Category A and B HMPS, Probation Offices, Police Stations, Medium and Low Secure Hospital Services, and Community Services.

Henrietta Roe – Consultant Audiologist and Hearing Therapist 

Henrietta (Henri) is highly experienced, with more than 13 years of working both in the NHS and in private practices on Harley Street, HCA Hospitals and The Shard. She has a BSc Audiology (Hons) from University College London. She is also a Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser with the Health and Care 
Professions Council and has tinnitus and hearing difficulties.
