Leeds Trinity University is proud to present Professor Fiona Shelton's Inaugural Professorial Lecture: Are you sitting comfortably? The symbolic nature of stories and the human experience.
Professor Fiona Shelton is the Founding Dean of The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Leeds Trinity University. In a career spanning nearly 30 years, she has worked with students across all phases of education including early years, primary, secondary and higher education. She has worked as a teacher, an educationalist and academic in a range of educational contexts, including the compulsory sector, national policy level and higher education.
Professor Shelton was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2019, based on her approach using the power of story for transformative educational experiences to understand the human experience. Her narrative research examines how human stories help us to see how others view the world, what they have encountered and the meaning this holds for them.
At Leeds Trinity University, Fiona works with students and colleagues on the enhancement of learning and teaching with a view to raising the profile of teaching excellence. This includes engaging in relational pedagogy to gain a better understanding and insight of the experience of students by adopting and embedding co-created, non-deficit, equitable approaches to education leading to enhanced innovation in pedagogic practice for improved student outcomes.
Professor Shelton is also a Visiting Research Associate at KU Leuven and a reviewer for Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the open access journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL). She is a founding member of the International Perspectives in Education consortium.
Following the lecture, guests are invited to enjoy a light buffet and refreshments.
