What’s happening?

Leeds Trinity University is proud to present Professor Danielle McDermott's Inaugural Professorial Lecture – 'Risky Business: Traversing the tightrope of academia and custodial practice'.

Professor Danielle McDermott is a Professor of Custodial Practice at Leeds Trinity University and has been responsible for leading and delivering a Masters in Applied Custodial Leadership. This is in partnership with Unlocked Graduates; a pioneering charity which aims to improve the way in which public sector leaders are developed, as well being in the forefront of innovation within prisons.

Prior to working in academia, Danielle spent over ten years working in prisons as a Psychologist, mainly working with people who had committed serious violent and sexual offences, conducting risk assessments and designing and delivering tailored interventions.

In her talk, Danielle will reflect on her 20 years’ experience in the penal system and higher education. She will discuss the ongoing challenge of striking the fragile balance between research and practice and will showcase her applied experience; providing intervention for the most dangerous and vulnerable in society, as well as her work educating and inspiring the future leaders in the criminal justice system.

Following the lecture, guests are invited to enjoy a light buffet and refreshments.
