About this event
This is the ninth lecture in the 'Beyond the Dark Clouds' lecture series - "Friendship and Spiritual Learning". This lecture will be given by Professor John Sullivan, Professor Emeritus of Theology and Education, Liverpool Hope University.
Professor John Sullivan has an international reputation for Christian education. He is an emeritus professor of Christian Education at Liverpool Hope University.
His special areas of academic interest include Christian higher education, the interconnections between theology, philosophy, and education, and the match between purposes of, contexts for and approaches to Christian education. His research interests also include the religious thought of Maurice Blondel, developments in the Catholic intellectual tradition, especially the unfinished project of modernism and the place of religious conviction and speech in the public square. What links these broad areas is an enduring engagement with key issues in the communication and reception of Christian faith.
His latest book is The Christian Academic in Higher Education: The Consecration of Learning (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). Prior to this he has authored, edited or co-edited seven books and over 80 chapters and articles (in the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia and Europe) on religion and education.
The aim of our inaugural lecture series 'Beyond the Dark Clouds' is to support the university, with its Catholic roots, to have a voice in the public square about justice, law-enforcement, the police, the nature of education, business ethics, spirituality, leadership and contemplation and the arts. Open to all, we encourage you to be a part of these public discussions about how to humanise our world and to bring about the conditions that enable the flourishing of all individuals and groups.
