You will be required to take four core modules and will choose two option modules from the list below.
This module develops practical competence in applying the law across all core practice areas required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Fully aligned with the SQE assessment specification and regularly updated, it covers key subjects including contract and tort law, criminal law and practice, land law and property practice, trusts, business law, dispute resolution, professional conduct and ethics, legal services, public and EU law, wills and estates, and solicitors’ accounts.
You'll gain an overview of the legal professions in England and Wales through a critical lens, and consider topics such as the origins of the professions and why that matters, traditional and new ways of working in the professions, elitism and equality and diversity concerns, as well as mental health issues across the branches of the professions. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to explore what it means to be an ethical legal practitioner and what the role of social justice is in legal practice.
This module develops competency in Legal Skills such as Advocacy, Interviewing and attendance note-taking/legal analysis, Case and matter analysis, Drafting, Research and writing.
You'll develop these skills in practice areas: Criminal Litigation, Dispute Resolution, Property Practice, Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice, and Business Law and Practice.
The above skills and practice area knowledge, together with Ethics and Professional Conduct, are covered to develop the competencies required for the second part of the Solicitors Qualification Examination (SQE2).
This module introduces approaches to legal research, alongside key practical and ethical considerations, delivered through a series of workshops. You will design a research project of your choice within an area of law and develop it into a dissertation. Throughout the module, you will be supported by the module leader and an assigned supervisor, who will guide you in completing a dissertation, appropriately presented and supported by references to relevant primary and secondary legal materials and academic literature.

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of immigration in practice and the processes and procedures relevant to tribunal cases in this area. You'll learn how to run a case from taking instructions, to seeking solutions and ultimately preparing Tribunal paperwork to seek appropriate remedies. Practical legal skills, as well as transferable organisational and case management skills, will be developed. Once you have covered the Foundational Land Law Principles, you will then focus on the various stages of the conveyancing transactions, from preparatory work to exchange and completion. You'll also have the opportunity to consider delays and remedies in relation to property transactions and explore the law relating to Leaseholds.
This module aims to provide you with an understanding of employment law in practice and the processes and procedures relevant to Employment Tribunal claims. You'll learn how to run an employment law case from taking instructions, to seeking solutions, and ultimately preparing Tribunal paperwork to seek appropriate remedies. You'll develop practical legal skills as well as transferable organisational and case management skills as you cover key issues such as employment status and issues arising from it, the formation, content, and operation of employment contracts, issues arising from the termination of contracts, as well as equality and discrimination in employment.
An understanding of family and child law in practice and the processes and procedures relevant to cases in this area will be explored in this module. You'll learn how to run a family/child law case from taking instructions, to seeking solutions and ultimately preparing Court paperwork to seek appropriate remedies. Practical legal skills as well as transferable organisational and case management skills will be developed as you cover key issues such as adult relationships and their breakdown, including divorce and financial orders; the law surrounding children in both private and public law cases, as well as issues around domestic abuse. You'll also explore funding options for family law cases and court processes.
You'll be provided with an understanding of immigration in practice and the processes and procedures relevant to tribunal cases in this area. You'll learn how to run a case from taking instructions, to seeking solutions and ultimately preparing Tribunal paperwork to seek appropriate remedies. You will develop practical legal skills as well as transferable organisational and case management skills as you cover key issues such as differences in immigration status, the right to abode, the situation of EEA nationals, and family reunion issues. You'll also explore particular legal complexities around Asylum seekers and refugees, and issues arising for students or in the employment context. You'll also learn about the law relating to deportation and removal, and will focus on tribunal processes throughout.
In this module, you'll cover the key principles of corporate law in England and Wales and be introduced to the concept of the company as a separate legal entity before considering limited liability, the corporate veil, a company’s constitution, as well as the role of directors who manage a company on a day-to-day basis, and shareholders who have invested in the business. You'll be introduced to the internal processes and procedures that need to be followed within a company, together with associated reporting requirements and liaison with Companies House. We'll encourage you to think critically about issues such as minority protection, majority rule, and the separation of ownership and control to enable you to apply these key concepts to problem-based scenarios.
