Gain valuable industry experience

A Placement Year is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your professional development as part of Leeds Trinity University’s career-led strategy and professional work placements offer. Placement years allow you to:

  • Develop key professional skills that are desired by employers
  • Give you insights into different organisations and sectors so you can make more informed career choices
  • Put what you’ve learned in your programme into practice
  • Earn whilst you’re doing this as most placement years are paid.

About the Placement Year

You will typically spend 9-12 months undertaking a professional placement between Level 5 and Level 6. You are responsible for sourcing your own placement, however, Careers+Placements give you lots of support through advertising opportunities, delivering group workshops, providing application support, and one-to-one tailored support. If you’re not sure where you’d like to do your placement that’s okay, we’re also here to provide tailored support to your aspirations. You can choose to do your placement anywhere, pending approval, so you have the choice of staying local to you or applying further afield.

There will be preparation sessions before your placement year to help you make the most of it and you will be supported by a placement tutor whilst on placement.

Successfully passing the placement year means that your degree title will have ‘with Professional Placement Year’ embedded in it, as a clear signal to employers and further study institutions that you have completed this opportunity.

How to apply

All placements must be approved by Leeds Trinity University before they can commence to ensure that your placement complies with health and safety, programme and LTU requirements.

Some programmes may offer the Placement year via Direct entry, so you will apply with the Placement Year variant of your programme to UCAS. Some programmes offer students the opportunity to opt for the Placement Year programme variant. In this instance, you would be transferred to the Placement Year variant of your programme after successfully sourcing an approved placement in Level 5.
