International Nurses' Day
On Wednesday, 12th May, we were proud to celebrate International Nurses' Day with a programme of activities recognising the incredible contribution of nurses and nursing associates across health and care.
Visitors had the opportunity to donate while treating themselves to nursing-themed jewellery and chocolate body organs, with all monies raised being shared between Help for Heroes and St Gemma's Hospice.
Our Student Nursing Associates were also on hand to chat with attendees about the vital role Registered Nursing Associates play within the workforce. Throughout the event, guests could take part in free blood pressure checks and advice through our “Know Your Numbers” initiative, test their knowledge of human anatomy and “beat the body clock,” and compete in our organ challenge by correctly replacing the organs in under two minutes for the chance to win a nursing-themed cookie.
Research Conference, Tuesday 28 April 2026
It was a day of inspiring talks, great people, and big ideas in health and life sciences. Students had the opportunity to hear from staff in the School of Health and Life Sciences about the research they carried out across Biomedical Science, Nursing, Allied and Applied Health, and Sports Science. They also explored a range of ongoing projects that could support their second-year placements or final-year research, while gaining insight into life as a research scientist.
Throughout the event, staff shared real research, real projects, and the tangible impact of their work across the discipline. From microbiology and immunology to sport science, nutrition, and clinical practice, students gained a clearer understanding of how these areas connected and translated into real-world applications.
