Award-winning media professionals with years of real-world experience will teach you all the skills you’ll need to turn your ideas into eye-catching content for any of today’s wide range of platforms – such as film, TV, radio or online – with a mix of practice and theory.
You’ll work in our industry-standard TV and radio studios and you’ll get your hands on the latest, high-quality equipment, available free in our purpose-built Media Centre. So you’ll graduate with an impressive portfolio bursting with exciting, visual content.
Undergraduate Media and Film courses:
We'll teach you how to design games using the latest methods and techniques implemented within the game industry, as well as related sectors such as 3D visualisation, 3D animation, and VFX for television and film. You'll learn how to create visually immersive games, combining and applying creative thinking and problem-solving skills. We'll keep you at the forefront of the latest market trends and technological developments in the gaming industry, preparing you for a successful career in the creative 3D industry.
We'll give you the opportunity to gain a wide range of creative and technical knowledge using 2D and 3D techniques. This will give you the skills and experience to develop innovative solutions that meet the ever-developing demand for higher quality online/mobile experiences. You'll gain knowledge in coding for web and gaming, interaction design, web design and development, and mobile application design. You could also learn how to generate ideas using visualisation, whether through visual concepts, illustrations or models, as well as exploring character design, pre-production, sequential illustration and model making.
We'll give you the opportunity to explore both VFX and VR, focusing or combining these immersive technologies in conjunction with the study of disciplines such as TV, production, games, web development and marketing. You'll be able to develop a unique portfolio of work using 2D and 3D disciplines, gaining hands-on experience of using the latest industry-standard software.
Our Film degree integrates the academic study of film with a practical education in filmmaking. You'll develop your key analytical skills and knowledge of contemporary developments in the film industry internationally and study all aspects of audio-visual production, developing a range of practical and craft skills.
We'll equip you with the tools and experience to become a skilled practitioner, researcher and analyst of media and culture, as well as a confident presenter of your own ideas and qualities. You'll have the opportunity to become a proficient media producer across a range of platforms, exploring radio and podcast production, image creation, online storytelling and television production.
You'll study key theoretical aspects of media and marketing, learn how the media works and explore how different branches develop. You'll get to choose some of your own projects, sometimes in groups, and you'll pitch, propose and plan your assignments, practicing the skills you'll need in this fast-moving industry.
You'll study the fundamental principles of psychology, learning how to apply them to the social issues relevant to digital media design such as behaviour, emotion and gender. From a media perspective, you'll explore how users interpret texts and images, the variety of narrative forms online, and the nature of the creative industries.
You'll explore photographic technique, and studio practice, learning how to process and edit images. You'll look at photography on location and how to professionally curate and exhibit photography, as well as how to promote and publish it. We'll also guide you through key legal, ethical and cultural aspects of photography, applying these to taking, editing, exhibiting or selling photographic images.
Award-winning media professionals – many of whom still work in the industry – will help you unlock the secrets of making memorable TV. You'll get practical, hands-on experience in camera operating, directing, presenting, sound recording, script-writing and editing. You'll work in our fully equipped TV studios, where you'll learn the art of being a vision mixer, autocue operator and floor manager. And you'll learn the key art of filming on location.
We’re one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree, which means you’ll have the chance to work with some of the top employers in the UK such as the BBC, ITV, leading production companies, PR, marketing and advertising agencies. And you could also work in our in-house production company, Trinity Vision, which produces films for external clients.
