Our Digital and Screen Media courses

These courses are available to study from September 2023:

with Foundation Year

Put yourself at the heart of one of the world’s most creative and exciting industries by studying one of our Digital and Screen Media degrees.

Award-winning media professionals with extensive industry experience will teach you the theory and practice you need to develop your ideas for today’s range of platforms. You’ll gain technical skills by working on projects in our TV, radio or photography studios, while getting hands-on with the latest equipment in our purpose-built Media Centre.

All our courses include professional work placements, so you’ll gain invaluable experience and employer contacts while you study. Combine this with the practical skills you’ll develop throughout your degree, and you’ll graduate with an impressive portfolio bursting with content that will set you apart from other graduates.

We also offer plenty of opportunities to add value to your university experience and enhance your CV. Depending on the degree you choose, you can study, work or volunteer overseas.

With the arrival of Channel 4 in Leeds and the ongoing growth of the film, TV and related industries in the region, there have never been more opportunities for media students and graduates in the city – don’t miss your chance to become one of them.

Matthew Bebbington.

The best thing about Leeds Trinity are all the opportunities to work in the media industry. I worked at a local TV station, an independent film company and produced my own material.

Placement opportunities

Digital and Screen Media students undertake placements in a wide variety of roles and organisations in this diverse sector. We will work with you to find placements that match your career aspirations, using our extensive links with media organisations, creative industries and the photographic sector in the region.

Previous students have had the chance to work as part of the production team at leading broadcasters (BBC, ITV, SkyFilm), as film assistants with TV and media producers (True North, Daisybeck Studios, True Vision Yorkshire) and as assistants to industry photographers.

Opportunities also exist working as social media assistants, content creators or researchers at a wide range of marketing, PR and advertising agencies, museums and art galleries.

Graduate opportunities

Our graduates are strongly represented in the industry as film and TV producers, programme schedulers, camera operators and sound recordists, or work for themselves providing their various skills on a freelance basis. The transferable skills developed during a film, photography or television production degree, such as writing, communication and interviewing, also support a career in PR, marketing or advertising.

Specialist learning and teaching facilities

The latest media technology, training and support are all available in our dedicated Media Centre. You can access industry-leading production spaces and equipment to help you produce high-quality professional work across all media platforms – including web, newspapers, magazines, television and radio.

The Media Loans and Helpdesk team are located at the heart of our production spaces to provide equipment hire and assistance when needed. Whether you want to book the TV studio, borrow equipment for a project, or need support in getting the most out of our specialist facilities and software, the team is on-hand to help.

You can use our TV, radio and photography studios, editing suites and production rooms throughout your studies to help you achieve your academic goals.

Our TV studios include lighting rigs, autocue, vision mixers and a shared video storage server that combine to create an integrated production environment. All our radio studios are equipped with Axia mixing desks with multiple input sources including Burli, Myriad and Adobe.

Our photography facilities include two studio spaces offering Elinchrom studio flash heads, a dedicated product photography table, props store and ceiling mounted backdrops. We also have a dark room with sinks, drying cabinets and a range of professional film processing equipment.

There are six dedicated video editing suites and production rooms located throughout the Media Centre that provide you with a choice of individual or shared working space. All computers have access to Adobe Creative Cloud and are connected to the Editshare central video server giving you access to a professional video editing environment.
