About this event

This is the second lecture in the 'Beyond the Dark Clouds' lecture series - "The Intelligibility of Hope in a World of Emerging Technologies". This lecture will be given by Dr Cathriona Russell, Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

Alongside teaching at Trinity College, Cathriona was Director of the Masters in Ecology and Religion at All Hallows College for three years and taught distance-learning students theology and ethics at the Priory Institute, Tallaght. She has been taking tour groups to the Chester Beatty Library for more than 20 years, having been first introduced to the collection's Biblical Papyri, among other treasures, through her studies at TCD.

An academic researcher with an international reputation and a lover of the environment as well as advisor to CAFOD, Cathriona is keen to discuss where the hope lies in a world that is rapidly embracing technology at pace.

About the lecture series

In our second lecture series entitled ‘Beyond the Dark Clouds: Prophetic Voices from Around the World,’ we will be continuing our theme of education for hope. This year we will be focussing on how to humanise the world through the study of ethics, philosophy, technology and artificial intelligence as well as enquiring about the nature of values and mission in the contemporary higher education environment.

This series is a way of keeping our Catholic roots alive within our academic portfolio as well as contributing to debates in the public square concerning some of the most pressing ethical issues of our times. Please join us for these free lectures as we seek to try to heal a fractured world.

When and where?

This lecture will be held online, starting at 7.00pm.
