About this event

This is the first lecture in the 'Beyond the Dark Clouds' lecture series - "Aristotle, Aquinas, Catholic Social Teaching and the University". This lecture will be given by Dr Andrew Morton, Research and Knowledge Exchange Officer at Leeds Trinity University.

Andrew’s research and teaching background has touched on a variety of subjects around political economy and public policy and he received his PhD from the University of Leeds in 2019. He also taught a variety of undergraduate level political theory classes where he was introduced to the teachings of Aristotle and St Thomas Aquinas and how these have informed catholic social thought, communitarian and civic republican theories and more broader debates around democracy and ethical socialism.

Andrew is a current employee of Leeds Trinity University and is working in the Research Office promoting and supporting research projects and knowledge exchange activities.

About the lecture series

In our second lecture series entitled ‘Beyond the Dark Clouds: Prophetic Voices from Around the World,’ we will be continuing our theme of education for hope. This year we will be focussing on how to humanise the world through the study of ethics, philosophy, technology and artificial intelligence as well as enquiring about the nature of values and mission in the contemporary higher education environment.

This series is a way of keeping our Catholic roots alive within our academic portfolio as well as contributing to debates in the public square concerning some of the most pressing ethical issues of our times. Please join us for these free lectures as we seek to try to heal a fractured world.

When and where?

This lecture will be held online, starting at 7.00pm.
