Dr Aimee Quickfall, Head of the School of Education at Leeds Trinity University, is one of three new members appointed to the council of The British Educational Research Association (BERA) after a competitive election process.  

This positions Dr Quickfall as an influential voice within a key organisation committed to supporting policy and practice in education and research, consolidating her aim to improve current education settings across all levels. Dr Aimee Quickfall is a qualified teacher who has taught every year group from Nursery to Year 6 during her career. She is one of the BERA Special Interest Group leads for Mental Health and Wellbeing and a member of the BERA Conference Committee. The BERA Conference is one of the largest educational research conferences in Europe. 

Notably, Dr Quickfall was a member of the advisory group for the fifth edition of BERA’s Ethical Guidelines for Educational Research, published on Wednesday 10 April 2024. The guidelines are a key resource for researchers across the country, enabling them to conduct their work to the highest ethical standards. 

Dr Aimee Quickfall said: “It is an honour to have been elected to the council of BERA, especially given how many excellent candidates were considered for the membership. My background as a working-class kid growing up in Grimsby has given me insight into the power and powerlessness of education, in the face of poverty and disadvantage. I have an appreciation for education research and how data and depth of understanding are essential for all of us in the sector if we are to dismantle the barriers to achievement that stood in the way of so many of my peer group.  

“I am very keen to increase my support of BERA as a trustee. For me, BERA is more important than ever in the current education landscape across our four nations, and I look forward to continuing our joint efforts to make life better for educators, students and children.”
