Subject Focus Days

Primary Education

Primary Education Overview

Teaching is an amazing profession. You get to work with children and their families, you’re supported by fantastic colleagues in school, and every day brings something new.

At Leeds Trinity, we offer two undergraduate programmes in Primary Education which cover the age ranges 3-7 and 5-11. This means that you can select the route most suitable for you and your aspirations.

Our programmes are developed alongside school partners, academic staff and the latest research to ensure our courses are current and respond to Ofsted requirements. All trainees spend a minimum of 24 weeks training in the school environment, with opportunities for enhanced placements in alternative age-ranges and settings located over a wide geographical area.

The courses are structured so that you’ll get into school quickly and pick up vital classroom experience, while also being able to form strong and supportive bonds with your fellow trainees. You’ll work with expert school mentors while on placement, while also receiving help, advice and support from University-based link tutors. This combination of expert input means that you’ll get specialist training on teaching the most difficult aspects of subject content, and understanding children and young people at various ages and stages of development, including how to manage a busy classroom.

“The work we’ve done at University has really helped me in preparation for going in to schools. I know what to expect and how to approach different situations. It has definitely given me more confidence as I feel more ready to go on placements.”
