Gain professional experience

When you choose to study at Leeds Trinity, you’re choosing a university that’s committed to making you as employable as possible.

We’re one of the only universities to build professional work placements into every degree, meaning you graduate with degree-relevant experience, employer contacts and references without having to take a year out.

Our students have worked with professional sports clubs and strength and conditioning coaches, as well as working with primary and secondary schools, human kinetics publishers and personal trainers.

Placement opportunities

Students on this course have completed placements as nutritionists with Aramark food services, offered nutritional advice and community support at Jamie’s Ministry of Food, delivered sports coaching to children in schools and worked alongside personal trainers in gyms.

Some of our students have completed their placement overseas with international charities supporting educational projects in countries including Rwanda and Cameroon.

Students on our Physical Education programmes have helped to teach sports sessions in primary and secondary schools, worked with personal training and strength and conditioning professionals, and gained enterprise experience with entrepreneurs working in the sports and fitness industry.

Some students have undertaken placements supporting coaching activity with county sports partnerships or national governing bodies for sport, such as the Football Association and the Rugby Football League.

Our Sport and Exercise Sciences students undertake placements in a wide variety of roles and organisations in line with their own areas of interest and career aspirations.

Our students have completed placements as strength and conditioning coaches with professional sports clubs including Bolton Wanderers Football Club and Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club, worked as fitness instructors and personal trainers in private gyms and delivered sports sessions in primary and secondary schools.

They have also undertaken roles with specialist human kinetics publishers, provided nutritional advice for food development companies and delivered community support with local authority health and wellbeing services.

Sports Coaching students typically complete placements as sports coaches at professional sports clubs, community schemes or grassroots-level clubs.

Students have also undertaken placements delivering PE sessions to children and young people in primary or secondary schools, at outdoor activity centres or in sports foundations, working in health and wellbeing or sports development roles.

Graduate opportunities

You’ll have the opportunity to graduate with the experience and knowledge needed for a range of careers in public health, health promotion in the NHS or local authorities, and roles in the sport, fitness and leisure industries that focus on nutrition, exercise and weight management.

You could develop a career as a sports coach working with children or professional athletes, find work in the fitness industry within physical activity and health promotion or in sport development or event management.

Many graduates have undertaken further study to become a qualified PE teacher. Others are working as sports development officers, personal trainers and health trainers and some have chosen to set up their own businesses delivering school sports or sports coaching.

Our commitment to developing your employability means you’ll have the opportunity to graduate with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to work in a wide range of sports industry roles. Many of our graduates work in elite sport as applied sport and exercise scientists and in research roles in the sports sector. Graduates have also been successful in teaching or coaching careers, as nutritionists with the NHS, or have pursued business and marketing careers using the transferable skills they’ve developed throughout the course.

This degree will prepare you for a career working for sports clubs or providing sports opportunities within the community. Our graduates work as training and education officers, teachers (after further study), high performance sports coaches, children’s sport leaders and sport development managers. You could also pursue a career in the fitness, physical activity and health promotion industry or in event management.
