Leeds Trinity University is offering a free beginners coding course in web coding; HTML, JavaScript, Wordpress, GIT and Pseudocode. 

With the Digital Skills Gap being identified as a hot topic in the Leeds City Region, Leeds Trinity as part of the European Social Fund reboot project to help skills upskill and progress into Digital Careers. 
Taught by Industry Web Developers, this course will teach you the basics of web coding languages and give you opportunities to learn more about the careers available in the web coding industries.

Course information​

The course will cover the basics of front-End Web Development from understanding the basics of the internet, the world wide web to HTML, CSS, JavaScript and development tools including Git, GitHub and Visual Studio Code.

Course dates 

Five week course

The five-week course will take place Monday to Friday 11:00am to 1:00pm. Starting on Monday 1 November 2021 and finishing on Thursday 2 December 2021.

Nine week course

The nine-week course will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 7pm and 9pm. Starting on Tuesday 19 October 2021 and finishing on Thursday 16 December 2021.

What does a Web Developer do?

A web developer or programmer takes web designs and creates the website. This is done by writing code and using a variety of coding languages. Web developers use programming languages such as HTML, CSS, Java Script to implement designs on to the web. 
This taster course will be valuable if you:
  • have no previous experience of the coding
  • have previously done some coding or have taught yourself a programming language
  • are already working and web coding would be useful to your role or enable you to take the next career step
  • would like to upskill in web development for personal or professional reasons 

What does the course cover?

The course covers all basic elements of web design and development including:
  • HTML – Introduction and beyond the basics;
  • Introduction to Content Management and WordPress;
  • JavaScript – introduction, Functions, Control Flow, Loops, Arrays and Objects
  • GIT – Introduction and workflows
  • Pseudocode and Ideation
You will be taught by a range of Industry Web Developers learning will involve:
  • Classroom sessions
  • Practical exercises that can be completed at home 
  • Optional Supported Workshop Sessions on a Tuesday Evening, to assist with side tasks or coding problems.
  • Preparation for applying for web development and coding jobs, both application and interviews.

Is the Course for me?​

This course is designed for anyone who has an interest in coding, or would like to expand their skill set into web based coding. It is recommended you are confident in basic IT skills, including web browsing, and creating documents. The course offers the opportunity to get a taste for programming and coding as well as upskilling within coding. It will appeal to people with:
