One full-time or part-time funded Masters by Research (MRes)

Leeds Trinity University is a modern, Catholic anchor institution with a developing and vibrant research environment. We are therefore delighted to announce the launch of one full-time or part-time funded Masters by Research (MRes) opportunity to be awarded by a competitive application process.

This MRes is funded by the Leeds Church Institute and includes a tuition fee waiver up to the UK/EU rate (£4,400 a year for 2023-24) and a contribution to research expenses (e.g., conference attendance, consumables, training costs etc). The Leeds Church Institute exists to be an active and progressive agent in the City of Leeds for the benefit of all. The opportunity is ideally suited to persons already residing in, and familiar with, the City. This opportunity is open to UK applicants with British citizenship. EU and international applicants are welcomed but should already have permission to reside/study in the UK at the point of application. 

Successful applicants are expected to start their studies on October 1st 2023. Successful applicants will be required to reside in the Leeds area and attend the University on a regular basis to complete their studies. Applicants should propose a project aligned to the faith-based mission and values of the Leeds Church Institute and those of Leeds Trinity University, especially in the areas of CST, ethics, and Theology, which are as follows:

  • Learning, theological reflection with the needs of others and dialogue
  • Hospitality and service
  • Partnerships for seeking the Common Good
  • Acting and planning with long term awareness
  • The importance of the arts and creativity – Art as Encounter
  • Stewardship: good value for money and spending money locally

Application process

All interested applicants should contact Dr Ann Marie Mealey and provide a broad description of their areas of interest. Applicants will receive guidance towards a suitable subject expert who is eligible to supervise in the area of interest. Applications should demonstrate sympathy with the ethos of the LCI and have a willingness to participate in activities specific to LCI (e.g., magazine outputs and presentations).

  • A completed application form and;
  • A detailed 2000 word (maximum) research proposal including a brief rationale, stated aims, brief methods and ethical considerations.
  • Proof of qualifications (e.g., certificates);
  • Two completed references.
