Mass to Remember Fr David Smith
Unfortunately, due to the current climate, the University has reluctantly reached the view that the remembrance event taking place on Saturday 16 May 2020 should be postponed. The University is very sorry to find itself in this position but hope you understand the decision we have had to take.
We hope to welcome you to campus when organisers have been able to re-schedule a new date.
Leeds Trinity University is holding a Mass for former Chaplain, Fr David Smith, as it is 25 years since he sadly passed away.
Fr David, born in Otley in 1936, was appointed Chaplain to Trinity and All Saints College in September 1982. At the same time, he became vocations Director for the diocese. Fr David was a very active chaplain who led support groups for staff and students as well as establishing liturgical, music, Justice and Peace and SVP (Society of Saint Vincent de Paul) groups and acted as the chairman of the Former Students Association.
Fr David left the College in July 1991 to become the Director of the National Vocations Centre in Leeds. He sadly passed away in Otley Hospital on 20 May 1995 after collapsing on a working holiday in New York in 1994.
We expect that a number of alumni will be returning who haven't been on campus for some time, so we will put on campus tours before the Mass.
In the atrium, following the Mass, there will be a chance to share memories of Fr David. These will be presented to his family following the event.
