Media touches all our lives. It’s a continually evolving sector in the global economy and the cultural pulse of humanity which offers vast opportunities for skilled and creative graduates.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): changes to courses

In the Department of Communication, there is a strong focus on practical workshops, applied learning and putting theory-into-practice, alongside traditional academic modules. All courses will be delivered in a blended format for Academic Year 2020/21. This will include pre-recorded lectures, with structured preparatory tasks in advance of live sessions in the virtual classroom on Microsoft Teams. These virtual classroom sessions will be used to engage you in a range of tasks and discussions which will be followed by further activities to reinforce learning. Staff will also make use of Moodle for learning activities and assessment.

We intend to deliver small group teaching and practical workshops on campus. These will include practical journalism, live production, film, radio and television workshops, as well as other small group teaching as appropriate. Production work has been carefully planned to ensure alternative approaches to production work can be deployed should further social distancing/lockdown restrictions be imposed and to ensure you can access appropriate equipment and software.

About this course

We will equip you with the tools, skills and experience to become a practitioner, researcher and analyst of media and culture, as well as being a confident presenter of your own ideas.

You will have the opportunity to become a proficient media producer across a range of online platforms, using multiple skills in image creation; interactive and transmedia storytelling; imagineering and visualisation, all within the context of professional and creative practice.

In your final year, you will apply these skills across major projects in research and production. You’ll have the freedom to pursue areas and ideas which interest you, showcasing your creative, practical and academic abilities.

Real-world experience will be at the heart of your university experience, preparing you for graduate career success. You will complete professional work placements in your second and final year of your degree, working on live or challenging media projects with employers from the media industry.

Student Finance

UK & EU Students:

Tuition fees cost £9,250 a year for this course in 2020/2021.

Part-time tuition fees will be pro-rated accordingly to the number of credits you're studying. Depending on government policy, tuition fees may rise with inflation in future years.

Tuition fees for 2021/22 entry will be set in summer 2020.

Living costs, e.g. accommodation, travel, food, will also need to be taken into consideration.

Leeds Trinity offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to help support students while you study.

International Students:

Tuition fees cost £12,000 per year for this course starting in 2020/21. Part-time study is not available for international students on a Tier 4 Student Visa. 

Additional costs

We advise students to budget for the following in addition to annual tuition fees:

  • Recommended and required reading lists will be provided at the start of your course. All the books and e-books are available from our Library to borrow but you may choose to purchase your own.
  • Field trips may occur during this course and they will be either fully or partly subsidised by the University. More details will be provided at the start of the course.
  • You'll need to include placement/s travel and associated costs too, however the University will contribute a standard amount towards your total expenditure.
  • The University provides students with a £6 printing credit each academic year which can be topped up either on campus or online
