Marc Davies, 2nd Year Media with Marketing

I’m really glad I chose Leeds Trinity and I can’t imagine being as happy anywhere else as I am here. I have friends who go to much larger universities, and the one thing I hear all the time is how they just don’t get enough face-to-face time with their lecturers. That’s definitely not the case here. All my lecturers know my name and they are genuinely interested in how I’m doing.

Leeds is really a great city for student life. Whether you’re in to cheesy pop or indie rock, shopping or culture, there’s something here for everyone. My personal idea of a great night out would start with a couple of drinks close to home at the Headingley Taps, followed by live indie rock at The Cockpit, a legendary club tucked away under the Leeds Rail Station.

My course, Media and Marketing, is perfect for me. All of my lecturers bring a different sort of expertise to the table which makes for a really well-rounded experience. My coursemates are really supportive and we all enjoy working together  - we get together on Skype for tutorials on a regular basis and we’re all really active on social media tools like Twitter, which is great since the digital aspects of marketing and media are becoming more important all the time.

My most recent placement was absolutely amazing. I worked with another placement student to develop and implement a marketing campaign from start to finish. Graphic design is my second love, after media and marketing, so it was great to be able to use and develop those skills as part of my placement. My fellow placement student did most of the copywriting for the marketing campaign and I designed the logos, posters, and leaflets. Our placement supervisors were extremely helpful and supportive of us - they believed in what we could do from the very beginning, and now we have an amazing body of work to show to prospective employers when we graduate.

Richie Anderson,
BBC Broadcast Journalist (Graduate)

“Immediately after graduating from Leeds Trinity in 2009, I started my job with the BBC as a broadcast journalist for BBC Radio West Midlands in Birmingham. I love my job as it’s incredibly varied and fast-paced, and I’m using all the skills I learnt during my degree course. In fact, the only word to sum up my three years at Leeds Trinity is amazing!

I enjoyed the fact that the teaching was very hands on and challenging because when you go out into the world of journalism it really gives you a good sense of editorial judgement. The skills I learnt in radio broadcasting as well as the advice I received from my lecturer have been a massive factor in me landing my job. She gave me the confidence to go out and get into the media during the recession.”
