Please note: Certificates of Higher Education involve six 20-credit modules from the above programmes, one afternoon per week and normally take one year to complete; however, they may be accessed over a longer period, e.g. 3 modules per year. The programmes have the same titles as the Foundation Degrees (above) and the entry/ conditions are the same.
Our Foundation Degree Programme offers a personal route through a variety of programme pathways aimed at enhancing and broadening your professional standing.
The Programme has been developed in the context of Multi-Agency Working, Integrated Services and Extended Schools. It is suited to people who support children, young people and families in a wide range of services including social, healthcare, education, voluntary, probation, charity, young offender, childcare and youth services.

Entry Requirements:
- Level 2 Literacy qualification e.g. Adult Literacy Level 2, Key Skills Communication Level 2, G.C.S.E. English Language “C”
- Level 3 qualification or equivalent e.g. A-level, BTEC, NVQ3, NNEB, Access. In the absence of this we offer the opportunity to take a mature essay.
- Support of employer
- Engagement in full or part-time relevant paid or voluntary employment/work experience
- Previous relevant work experience and learning can be accredited and assessed as part of the application process.

Please Note:
Candidates intending to undertake HLTA assessment must present Level 2 certificates for Numeracy and Literacy at the time of the HLTA module
Candidates intending to go forward to QTS will require Mathematics, Literacy and Science GCSEs A-C
Times and dates:
Our foundation degrees have a flexible start with entry points in February or September.
Individual modules may be accessed at any time.
The Foundation Degree programmes have full time weighting (240 credits) but part-time attendance. All except Workplace Wellbeing run at the following times at Leeds Trinity site:
- Year 1 Thursday afternoons 1.30-7p.m.
- Year 2 Tuesday afternoons 1.30-7p.m.
- School term time only
Accreditation of Prior Learning:

Continuing Professional Development:
All modules can be accessed as standalone CPD opportunities, resulting in a Certificate. Subsequently these awards can be accredited if you wish to undertake the full Foundation Degree programme.
Progression opportunities:
Foundation Degree graduates can progress to the following 2-year Work Based Learning routes. These are attended on the same part-time basis as the Foundation Degrees:
Qualified Teacher Status
The above Work-Based Learning Degrees may lead to a P.G.C.E. Primary or a Graduate Training Programme.
2-year full-time Degree Programmes at Leeds Trinity:
Please note a progression route is not currently available for progression for secondary QTS unless students have a recognised subject degree
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status (HLTA):
All Foundation Degree programmes include the opportunity to be prepared for HLTA assessment at either Level 1 or Level 2. Click here to find out more about HLTA
Certificates of Higher Education
Completion of Level 1 of a Foundation Degree (6 modules, minimum 100 credits) leads to the award of a Certificate of Higher Education.
Certificates of Higher Education can be accessed as:
- Full time study, i.e. one afternoon per week for one year
- Part time study – 6 modules accumulated on a piece by piece basis over up to 4 years
Awards available are:
Students who have completed the Certificate of Higher Education may progress to a relevant Foundation Degree at a later stage if they wish.
