Research Programmes (MPhil/PhD) 
 
Leeds Trinity University College has a varied and developing research base, continuing to grow with support from the University of Leeds. Particular strengths include humanities, social sciences, cultural and media studies.
 

Research supervision is offered within a range of academic and professional subject areas.

Research degrees
Research degrees involve training in a particular subject area through original exploration or other appropriate methodology, resulting in the production of a thesis. As a research student you will attend internal and external conferences, lectures and seminars dealing with current research in your field.

How to Apply
You should complete an application form for research degree study. All applications are considered carefully by both Leeds Trinity University College and the University of Leeds. Normally applicants will receive a decision within two months.

The MA in Victorian Studies offers postgraduate students a uniquely flexible, wide ranging and affordable opportunity to study the Victorian period.

Award of Research Degrees
You will usually be assigned a supervisor in the appropriate faculty at Leeds Trinity University College and a joint supervisor in the relevant department at the University of Leeds.

Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
This should include the result of an appropriate research programme or critical analysis of existing knowledge in a defined field and contain matter suitable for publication.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
This should include a distinct contribution of current knowledge to a subject. Your thesis should exhibit systematic study, be independent, critical, original and suitable for publication in whole or part.

Study Arrangements
Training in research methods, management and thesis writing is available through workshops at the University of Leeds. You will have access to computing and library facilities in the new Andrew Kean Learning Centre, and the University of Leeds Brotherton Library.

You will also be encouraged to attend relevant lectures and to take part in seminars and conferences where current research in your field, or in related areas, is presented and discussed.

Entry Requirements

  • A first or second-class honours degree or equivalent, in an area relevant to the proposed research topic
  • We will consider applications from candidates without such qualifications in special circumstances, but we will require evidence of your capacity to meet the demands of research degree study
