There are a number of programmes in the field of Business and Management that lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma with 120 M level credits. Many of these are accredited by a professional body, for example the Chartered Management Institute’s Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management, the Edexcel Level 7 Diploma and the ABP Extended Level 7 Diploma in Business Management. Students who complete such awards now have a progression route if they want to obtain a full Masters award.

The “top up” award is available to any student who already has 120 M level credits from a recognised Business and Management award.

It consists of two modules: Research Methods and a 12,000 word Dissertation.

The Research Methods module is delivered in a block, 3 days per week for 2 weeks and then 2 days later on. The module culminates in the submission of a research proposal. If this is acceptable, then the student can proceed to the Dissertation module, where the proposal is enacted and made real.

The Dissertation is supported by one to one supervision sessions which are arranged at times of mutual convenience to the student and supervisor. Some of these sessions might be by telephone, e-mail, Skype or other form of remote contact.

The research proposal is approximately 3,000 words long, whilst the dissertation is approximately 12,000 words.

Upon completion of an acceptable dissertation the student will be awarded the MA in Business Management.

Students can start the top up course in either September or January each year.
