The Points based Immigration System (Tier 4)
As you may already know, under the points-based immigration system (Tier 4), before you can apply for a student visa either from overseas or in the UK, you will need to obtain 40 points. 30 points are obtained by a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) record be created on the UK Border Agency SMS Portal by the institution where you intend to study. 10 points are obtained by providing evidence that you have sufficient maintenance funds to support yourself.
Changing Sponsors
All students joining a new institution are expected to apply for a new Tier 4 visa. The only exception applies if your current permission to stay is based on a Tier 4 application made before 5 October 2009 AND the existing permission to stay covers the entire duration of the course at Leeds Trinity, then you must obtain permission from UKBA to change your sponsor. How to Request a CAS Number in the UK for visa extension?
Please download Leeds Trinity CAS Request Form and return the completed form with all the documents required by email to CAS@leedstrinity.ac.uk. – prior to this, please make sure that you have paid all the fees due to Finance Office (AM4). International Office will then input details onto the UKBA website to generate a CAS and email you the CAS within 10 days.
How to Show Financial Evidence to the UKBA?
You will need to submit a bank statement that you have held £800* for each month of the course up to a maximum of 9 months for a consecutive 28 day period ending no more than 1 month before you submit your Tier 4 application. (or * £1600 if you qualify for the reduced maintenance level by having had by having recently studied for at least 6 months at an institution in the UK prior to the application you are now making. In addition you must still have valid leave to remain under Tier 4 in the UK – please make sure you do not over-stay your visa as overstayers will be seriously penalised by the UKBA.UK. )
