During my three years at Leeds University I worked on the Leeds Student Radio (LSR) news team. This involved writing and reading news bulletins, and creating packages for our weekly news show. The news team won an award for our news broadcasts at the Student Radio Awards in 2010, so the standard of our work was high. I also had a weeks work experience at the SkySports.com newsroom during my last year of sixth form.
I have just completed a month of producing live radio bulletins for Bradfrod Community Radio. We broadcast a three minute bulletin every hour from 8am till 6pm, including on a Sunday, 9am till 12pm. During this time I had shifts in which I was the editor, the newsreader and also a reporter. This gave me lots of experience of finding stories, conducting interviews and writing for radio. During my shifts as editor I ran the newsroom, making important decisions such as which stories to follow and the running order of the bulletins, as well as managing and directing my team. My shifts as newsreader helped me to develop my voice and work in a live environment.
For some shifts I was working solely in our patch, in Bradford, finding stories and working away from the office. I also worked on a multi-media platform, and wrote my stories up to be put on our website. When I was sent out on some stories I also took camera equipment with me and filmed it for our website, and took pictures on a camera to also put online.

I had a days work placement at ITV Yorkshire, working on the daily news magazine programme, Calendar. I shadowed a video journalist and helped produce one of the packages that appeared on that evenings programme.
