As part of my diploma I worked on a month long radio broadcast period with Bradford Community broadcasting and on our daily internet based news programme 'Leeds Today'. Some personal highlights include reporting the 30th June strikes, for which I filed two live voicers into bulletin, and As well as producing content for radio bulletins and packages for the TV programme, this also involved writing content for online and helping to promote our social media presence on Twitter. I have had some great opportunities so far this year, including filming a short piece on a Royal Wedding celebration in Leeds for the Sky News 'Your Wedding' programme. Recently I have shadowed a broadcast journalist at ITV regional news prgramme Calendar and I was involved in some live reporting that was broadcast at a Leeds Trinity open day. At university I was a member of the news team at Leeds Student Radio for three years (2007-2010), which involved writing and reading hourly news bulletins and before that I volunteered with Teesdale Community Radio in Barnard Castle. I have also done some work shadowing with a press officer at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and a broadcast journalist at Galaxy Yorkshire.

My experience with student radio helped me to develop a strong news instinct and news awareness, as well as increase my confidence for reading live. As a student, I had several jobs in promotions that involved communicating confidently and enthusiastically with the public, a skill I find useful when researching news stories and conducting interviews.
