What is the Unipol Code of Standards?

Whoever you rent your house / flat from, we recommend that you rent it from someone who is signed up to the Unipol Code of Standards. The Unipol Code is a voluntary Accreditation Scheme (in other words a set of rules) which ensures that your rights as tenants are protected.
Unipol Code Landlords have made a declaration that they will provide a level of accommodation and service that meets criteria exceeding national standards. In addition, if anything does go wrong and that is a problem with the Landlord, there is an independent complaints procedure / dispute resolution process available to you.
Look out for the above logo when House Hunting - this indicates that the landlord is signed up to the Unipol Code of Standards.
You can find more information about Unipol, and a database of accredited properties, on their website at www.unipol.org.uk/leeds
Contract Checking Service

Before you sign on the dotted line, it's always a good idea to have a trained member of staff look over the Tenancy Agreement (contract) to check that it's in order, and explain any confusing bits. A Unipol Code Landlord must allow you at least 24 hours to look over the contract, so in this time bring it along to the LTU Welfare Office and our Student Welfare Adviser will be happy to look over it for you.
