“I learnt to deal with customers professionally. The sector is so competitive, businesses are constantly striving to better themselves and beat competition.”

About Placements

Invaluable Experience

Professional placements are a brilliant way to get a head start in your career, develop skills and become much more employable, particularly in such a competitive job market. Our students get a lot out of their placements in terms of knowledge, skills and confidence and some even go on to get paid work as a direct result. You can organise your own placement or ask the Employer Partnership Team to arrange it for you.

Placement Structure

The six week placements take place at the end of the first year (Level 1) and halfway through the second year (Level 2). Students on Journalism or Sport Journalism, English, History and Theology courses undertake a placement in Level 2 only. Each placement is accredited and marks at Level 2 go towards the final degree classification.

At Level 2 some courses include an alternative volunteering placement which runs through the whole academic year. You need to volunteer for a minimum of 60 hours as agreed with the organisation. This can work particularly well for work that is more ongoing such as environmental work, supporting vulnerable adults, mentoring school children or delivering weekly sport sessions etc.
