What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is one of a range of specific difficulties with some aspect(s) of reading, writing or study skills. Your specific difficulty might be in reading or spelling, writing essays, or getting organised. You might feel as though you work much harder than your friends just to keep up.
Don't worry! Many dyslexic students learn strategies to manage their difficulties and go on to graduate and pursue successful careers. However many of them need additional support to achieve this. The most important step is to ask for help now!

I have been identified as dyslexic and have had extra support in school or college. Can Leeds Trinity offer me the same support?
You might be entitled to Disabled Students’ Allowance, which would enable you to obtain specialist equipment or extra tutorials to help you keep up with your work. You will need to provide a recent psychological report as evidence of your dyslexia.
We can assist you with applying for Disabled Students' Allowance or arranging an updated psychological assessment if you need one. We provide specialist support tutorials for students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. We also run an ongoing programme of staff development, to help your tutors and other staff understand more about dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.
We work with you to produce a Learning Support Plan, to help you explain your support needs to your tutors.
I was assessed as dyslexic at age 11. Am I still eligible for extra support?
We will require an up to date psychological assessment to confirm your condition. You will also need this if you wish to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance. Ask your school or college if they can arrange this for you, or contact us for more information.
Can I have extra time in examinations?
This can be arranged and depends on your particular needs. You will need to provide evidence of your entitlement to these concessions, for example a medical or psychologist’s report.
Depending on your support needs, you may be entitled to extra time, and/or one of many adjustments we can make, for example the use of a laptop, scribe or reader in examinations or the use of coloured paper.
