Information for Applicants
Thinking of applying to Leeds Trinity?
Here are the answers to some questions you might want to ask.

How does Leeds Trinity handle applications from disabled students?

If you declare a disability on your UCAS form (using codes B - J) then Dyslexia & Disability Support Services (DDSS) will be informed.  We will then discuss with other members of staff the best way to meet your needs.

Your application will be considered on the basis of academic merit and your experience and skills, as for all other applicants.

DDSS may write to you asking you to fill in a form giving us more information about your specific needs.

If you will need support from a variety of sources please note that there may be a slight delay in processing your application. We may need to gather information from several departments before we can confirm we’ll be able to meet your requirements. We do not want to make an offer of support that we later find we are unable to fulfil.

Can I arrange to meet you for an informal discussion about the support I might need?

Yes! You are welcome to visit us at any point during the application process, or contact us by phone or Email. This is often the best way for you to find out what you need to know about Leeds Trinity and for us to learn how we can most effectively meet your requirements. In some cases we might contact you and invite you for an informal visit. You could also arrange to meet us if you are coming to Leeds Trinity for an Open Day or Applicants Day.

Do I have to tell you about my disability?

If we have advance information about your disability or condition we are in a better position to offer appropriate support to enable you to succeed on your course. You might not feel you need any additional support at this stage, but many students find their opinion changes as the work becomes more demanding. If you do not declare a disability on your UCAS form there will be further opportunities to do so once you have started the course.

Telling us about your disability will not count against you in the application process.

Will my information be kept confidentially?

The information you supply will be treated in confidence.

However we can’t guarantee absolute confidentiality of your information. In order to establish the support you need, we often have to discuss it with other people. With your permission, we disclose only information which is relevant and only to the people who need it.

If you choose not to have your information circulated we will respect your request for confidentiality and will discuss with you the most effective ways of offering support without compromising your position. However in this case we may have less opportunity to implement the most effective support for your studies.

Can I request particular facilities in my accommodation?

If you have particular needs arising from your disability, such as a requirement for an en suite room or a fridge, please inform Dyslexia & Disability Services and also mention this when you apply for hall. In addition to our standard or accessible accommodation we can make minor building adaptations if necessary.

Can my parents discuss my support with you?

If you would like your parents to be involved in your application, please write or Email us to give us permission to contact them. Otherwise, in accordance with the Data Protection Act, we are not legally permitted to contact them.
