Research
Research is a fundamental part of Leeds Trinity University College and of our plans for the future.

We are a ‘teaching-led, research-informed institution’, committed to the empowerment of individuals and engagement with communities. At Leeds Trinity teaching is informed by and in turn informs scholarship and research.

Our programmes are designed with the latest and most advanced research in mind. They are delivered by staff with a genuine commitment to embedding research and enquiry at all stages of their courses, and in bringing their own research and professional experience to bear on the student experience. Leeds Trinity has a rapidly growing reputation in a number of specific areas of expertise, and is committed to an active programme of enriching the links between teaching and research across the full range of its courses.

At Leeds Trinity we have a well-established track record and reputation for our research and scholarship. The results of the RAE, announced in Dec 2008, were extremely pleasing for the College. All four departments which were entered were successful with some work in History judged world-leading and large proportions of work in English and in Theology and Religious Studies judged of international excellence. The subsequent funding announcement, which explicitly sought to reward "pockets of excellence" such as the College's, has trebled the College's research income.

In recent years we have successfully competed for a number of external grants, including a three year Creative Writing Fellowship funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and a £125,000 ‘Cooking Communities’ project funded by the All Saints Educational Trust. We are an established provider of continuing professional development, especially in the education and media sectors. Our academic staff have played an important role in professional developments: the Schools History Project  has been based at Leeds Trinity for more than 25 years. Through our undergraduate placement programmes we have sponsored a very significant number of small scale work-based studies of real benefit to commercial and public sector organisations across the region.
