Rev. Mgr. John Wilson, BA, STB, STL, PhD is a priest of the Diocese of Leeds and currently exercises the role of Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation. A native of Sheffield, he studied theology and religious studies at Leeds University before beginning seminary formation at the Venerable English College, Rome, in 1989. There he completed a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (Pontifical Gregorian University) and a Licence in Moral Theology at the Accademia Alfonsiana (Pontifical Lateran University). He was ordained a priest in 1995 and work in parishes in Pontefract, Wakefield and Bradford. In 1999 he was appointed to the staff of Ushaw College, Durham, as a lecturer in moral theology, completing a PhD at Durham University and, serving as Vice Rector of the seminary. Bishop Roche recalled him back to the Diocese in January 2005 to assume responsibility for the newly created Vicariate for Evangelisation. He has worked in school, hospital, hospice, and prison chaplaincy and is regularly involved in teaching and formation, retreat work and spiritual direction. In July 2011 he was named a Chaplain to His Holiness by Pope Benedict XVI.
