Leeds Trinity University College confirmed its position as one of the top providers of journalism education when the editor of The Guardian and boss of BBC news spoke at the end of a prestigious Journalism Week.
‘Be flexible, curious, tenacious, energetic, consume the media and be yourself,' was the advice given to trainee journalists by Director of BBC News Helen Boaden. Helen also strongly defended the license fee as the guarantor of BBC independence.
Alan Rusbridger , Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, gave insights into the changing world of the media and the role played by the public in shaping stories and how they developed, or what he called the “mutual newspaper”. Illustrating his talk with a range of examples from online media, social networking sites and newspapers, Alan said, “We are moving from a world where journalists didn't like contact with their audience, to a period of experimentation with mutualisation”.

Trainee journalists from Leeds Trinity University College have got news for electioneering politicians – Facebook and Twitter are not the way to win over the voters.
This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by five postgraduate journalism trainees on behalf of the BBC Politics Show. The survey team interviewed voters in the marginal seat of Leeds North West, currently held by the Liberal Democrat MP Greg Mulholland.

With nearly 1000 placements a year, across the UK and internationally, students get involved in all kinds of exciting projects and for a wide variety of organisations.
