Leeds Trinity University in top 20 for academic excellence
14 December 2016
Leeds Trinity University has been named in the top 20 universities for having the most qualified academic staff.
Ranked 14th out of 130 universities in England, 72% of teaching staff at Leeds Trinity have a professional teaching qualification.
Dr Jonathan Glazzard, Head of Academic Development at Leeds Trinity University, said:
"Teaching excellence is central to the success of higher education institutions, and at Leeds Trinity University, we are exceptionally proud of our reputation for teaching quality.
"We want to support our staff in their professional development as much as possible, and in turn, enhance the student experience by delivering high-quality teaching across the University."
The data was collected between 2014 and 2015, and released by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and analysed by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) – but Dr Glazzard believes the figure for Leeds Trinity will increase with new programmes being developed this year. He said:
"In September, we launched a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education as a course to provide training in how to teach in higher education, and we encourage our staff to engage in a Professional Learning Network which offers development courses for staff at different stages of their careers. We are absolutely committed to supporting our academic staff in gaining professional teaching qualifications."
