Posted on 29 May 2018

Student satisfaction has increased significantly at Leeds Trinity University, moving the institution up the rankings in the Guardian University Guide 2019, published today (29 May 2018).

The quality of feedback and assessment was particularly highlighted, and is reflected in the significant increase from 56th nationally to joint 16th for feedback satisfaction.

The University also moved up 44 places for overall course quality (now ranked joint 62nd) and 45 places for the quality of teaching (now joint 54th).

Professor Margaret A House OBE, Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said:

"At Leeds Trinity, we are defined by our community; where students are a name and not a number; where we support our students to be the very best they can be; and where care for the individual is at the heart of our vision.

"I am exceptionally proud of the league table results today, which reflect the care and support we continue to provide to all of our students. At Leeds Trinity, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, and our entire team is committed to providing the best experience for our students."

Widening participation within higher education is reflected in the University's value-added score; a rating out of 10 which compares students' degree results with their entry qualifications, to show how effectively they are taught.

Leeds Trinity has consistently achieved high marks within this category and is ranked joint 4th nationally this year. Certain subject areas, including Business, Management and Marketing, and Media and Film, received the highest ratings of 10 out of 10 - placing the subjects top for value-added.

Professor House added: "We offer a personalised and flexible approach to learning, and we are committed to enhancing and enriching the learning experience for all of our students."

Psychology and Business courses at Leeds Trinity excelled for teaching, with Psychology ranking 1st and top in the UK for teaching quality with 96.0% satisfaction, and Business, Management and Marketing ranking 2nd and top in England for teaching quality with 92.9% satisfaction.

Feedback and assessment was particularly high for English and Creative Writing, ranked joint 3rd nationally, Media and Film, ranked joint 8th, and Psychology, ranked joint 9th.

Six subject areas have increased overall and moved up the league table with Media and Film Studies ranking 21st nationally and Journalism ranking 29th (up 14 places from last year). Overall, Leeds Trinity has moved up 26 places, ranking 85th out of all UK universities.

The results complement The National Student Survey 2017 which ranked Leeds Trinity as the top mainstream university in Yorkshire for student satisfaction, The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 which listed Leeds Trinity as the 6th best university in the country for teaching quality, and the Silver award for teaching excellence in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
