The first trainee officers will be appointed to the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme in April 2020 with the recruitment window opening in July 2019. The Force is particularly reaching out to those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds as part of the latest recruitment drive in a bid to better represent the communities they serve.

In addition to the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, Leeds Trinity will deliver a new Degree Holder Entry Programme allowing those who already hold a non-policing degree to complete a two-year learning programme to become a qualified police officer. From September 2020, the University is also delivering a BA Professional Policing undergraduate degree programme.
Professor House added: “In recent years we have developed programmes in Criminology, Sociology and Law, and most recently Professional Policing. Our partnership with West Yorkshire Police creates further opportunities for our students on these courses, as well as those studying the Degree Apprenticeship and work-based learning programme. We are very proud of our provision and we’re looking forward to working more closely with West Yorkshire Police in the coming years.”
To become a police officer, you need to be 18 (at the time of application), have a level 3 qualification or equivalent, have no criminal convictions (minor offences will be considered on a case-by-case basis), meet our attendance record and be able to pass a job-related fitness test. The starting salary for officers on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship is from £18,000, with incremental annual increases leading to a salary of £24,654 on successful completion of the programme and confirmation in role.
